Jane Jin Kaisen: Community of Parting

Community of Parting is a solo exhibition by Jane Jin Kaisen, an artist who travels back and forth between Korea and Denmark, that focuses on the themes of history, memory, translation and migration. The exhibition introduces three recent works: a three-channel video installation, "Community of Parting," (2019), a six-piece light box installation, "At the Moon," (2020), and a two-channel video installation, " Braiding and Fixing" (2020). All of these works are based on the artist's hometown of Jeju, its natural environment, her years of research on Jeju shamanism, and the voices of oppressed and marginalized communities. The images and materials of historical events related to these topics are juxtaposed to provide multiple perspectives and multiple narratives.
