Myeongsindang Pilbang was founded in 1932 in Boryeong, Chungcheongnam-do, as an ink factory and moved to Insadong in 1987, where it has remained ever since. It is one of the few remaining paintbrush shops and is also famous for inscription which was carved by Queen Elizabeth and the King and Queen of Spain during their visit to Korea. Myeongsin-dang Pilbang's trade name, "Myeongsin," means "always moving forward, day by day and month by month. Top Korean calligraphers such as Idang Kim Eun-ho, Cheongjeon Lee Sang-beom, Sojung Byeon-kwan-sik, and Goam Lee Eung-no all purchased materials from Guhasanbang. Myeongshindang Pilbang is not only concerned with preserving tradition, but is also constantly researching new materials.
